A tremendously popular 2005 Travellers Trophy series produced record open meetings turnouts, matching numbers not seen since the early 90’s – for the season the class averaged 28 boats at each event !

This coupled with the largest National and Inland Championships attendance for 10 years (both breaching the 50 boat mark) plus another grand stand turnout of 120 at Worlds in Germany proved to be a bumper year for the Contender.

A new National Champ in the form of Tim Holden from Halifax and World Champion Jan van der Bank from Germany.

The 2006 season is already off to a flyer following the fabulous ‘Fremantle Doctor’ conditions experienced in January at this year's Worlds in Australia.

With the 21 British boat container arriving just before the Dinghy Show means no one will miss out on the first event at Datchet on 18/19 March.

TRAINING 

At this first event we intend to run a tuning session for anyone and everyone prior to racing on the Saturday at Datchet so turn up early and get your boat tuned by class leaders Holden, Jones, Mussell and Langdown.

We have again secured the services of RYA Coach Adam Bowers who will be running a Training weekend at the Weymouth & Portland SA over 20/21 May, specifically for Contenders.

Open meetings

The Travellers Trophy is comprised of 12 events at some of the best Inland and open Sea venues up and down the country.

From Helensburgh in Scotland to Porthpean in Cornwall, via Rutland !

All are welcome to attend as the class encourages knowledge sharing between sailors.

National Championships

This year’s event will be held at Teign Corinthian YC in Teignmouth, Devon between Sat.3rd and Tue 6th June.

It will comprise of an 8 race format with 2 discards.

Social events such as a reception, BBQ and Championship Dinner will be included in the entry fee of £85.

European Championships

The Euros are to be held on the picturesque Lake Traunsee in Austria from 27th Aug – 1st Sept. The host club is situated in the town of Ebensee, which is east of Salzburg.

Entry is 150euros.
