Mussell Masterclass !

30 Contenders revelled in the 20+ knot conditions experienced at Castle Cove SC in Weymouth over 7/8 Oct.The sun drenched, windy weekend produced some of the best and closest sailing of the season to date, with most taking a freshening dip at some point. The event was dominated by Simon Mussell and Stuart Jones who shared the 6 race wins between them, while bit part players at the front were Graham Scott, Paul Ross and Matt Aston making for some close racing when they kept their boats upright!Veterans Dave Gautier and Keith Paul showed some of the younger members of the fleet that being in your mid sixties is no handicap as they posted top 5 results in the strengthening breeze – Dave and Keith’s boat handling puts most of us to shame! However, Mussell had the bit between his teeth, and even the interesting coming-together’ on the 3rd start with Martin Frary wasn’t going to halt his quest for overall honours. It eventually came down to the last race and Mussell powered away from the fleet and Jones had to settle for runner-up.With this event win, Mussell’s destiny for overall Traveller Trophy success is firmly in his own hands going into the final TT event, the Inland Champs at Rutland.
