Contender Open - Oxford SC 5/6th April
29 contender sailors decided to ignore the predicted snow falls to head for Farmoor reservoir on the 5th and 6th of April. Although the 15 Knot Northwesterly breeze had an arctic bite to it  the sunshine helped to make for great racing conditions.
The first race saw Graham Scott and Stuart Jones leave the fleet behind to enjoy a real tussle. This only ended when Jones snapped a shroud U-bolt to leave Scott an easy win with John Browett moving up to second and Simon Mussell third.
Race two was much closer with much place changing in th shifty conditions. Gary Langdown came out in front with Browett second followed by Stacey Bray.
Saturdays last race was a very short affair and saw the previously quiet Matt Aston roar into life with a convincing win from Scott and Mussell.
Awaking on Sunday morning was a bit of a shock as several inches of snow had fallen but luckily the sun came out and the thaw was well underway by start time.
Race four saw Aston continue his winning form in a slightly lighter Northwesterly breeze with Jones  in second and Langdown third.
Race five and Browett sailed the shifts well to win followed by Mussell and Aston.
So going into the last race it looked like Browetts consistency would pay off but only if Aston didn't produce another win. Browett produced another win in great style with Jones second and Langdown third.
So overall Browett took first from Aston with Langdown in third.
Chris Howe won the silver fleet and Simon Ramm the bronze.
Overall Results.
1. John Browett 10pts
2. Matt Aston    14pts
3. Gary Langdown 17pts
4. Graham Scott 20pts
5. Simon Mussell 24pts
Thanks to Chris Howe and Oxford SC for some great racing.
