The Contender fleet enjoyed an inexpensive weekend's at Gurnard Sailing Club on the Isle of Wight thanks to the sponsorship of Wightlink.
The race officer,Mark Morrison, laid an Olympic course for the first race with the start from Gurnard, the windward mark off Cowes, the jybe mark by Beaulieu river and then back to Gurnard. The tide was very strong and it was an exercise in "course made good" and transits.
Gary Langdown led from the start to finish 1st with Matt Aston in close pursuit.
The second race on Saturday was an inshore small triangular Olympic course .
The strong current was the dominant factor despite enormous windshifts.Martin Frary led at the first mark.He dropped back to 4th place but found his way back into the lead, finishing in first place.
On Sunday the race officer took the fleet over to the Beaulieu river side to race.Three races were held over a flood tide.Gary Langdown dominated all 3 races with Martin Frary and Matt Aston challenging him.
Thanks go to the sponsors Wightlink,Henri Lloyd and Spinlock.
Places were:
1st Gary Langdown
2nd Martin Frary
